Ultimate Ascent - Holly
Holly was the first robot built by The Drop Bears. The name was a homage to the unique drive base design allowing for ‘holonomic’ movement on the field. This allowed the robot to move in any direction, creating an advantage in mobility as the robot traverses the arena. The robot takes advantage of a triangular shape and specialised Omni-directional wheels to achieve a high degree of manoeuvrability.
It was made to launch frisbees at aerial targets for the Ultimate Ascent game for the 2013 FIRST Robotics Competition game. The mechanism had an intake for frisbees from a designated section of the field from a handfed station into a complex loading system that allowed the frisbees to be loaded into the accelerator subsystem. The accelerator subsystem allowed for game pieces to be propelled at speed as two flywheels launched the frisbees at the target.
